Our Story Starts With a DreamIt all started when I was a little girl, like many others I was in love with the idea of owning a farm and having horses, the whole shebang. I might have sucked Hunter into the idea now too.
As I've gotten older I've come to realize that it's something I wanted to work for, an end goal if you will.
I've realized over the years that its going to be hard work, i hope in the next few years it becomes a reality.
We currently live in South Dakota, and while I thought this was going to be the place to make it happen, my boyfriend, Hunter, and I have realized we want to go back to our roots.
Back to West Virginia where Hunter was born and raised, and I spent the majority of my life. We both miss the tree and mountains, and we have decided to make our homestead in that general area.
When I first started this whole plan I was 21 years old, and am now 23 years old. We have had rabbits here in town at our current residence and while that was a lot of fun, living in town doesn't offer much in way of having the animals I want to have. So we put the rabbits on hold and sold them until we get our permeant homestead.
Having a farm will take lots of hard work, time, and of course money. We both work "regular" jobs I guess you could say, we work at Dairy Queen. And while we don't want to work in fast food forever it pays our bills. Were learning what we can while being on a hiatus from homesteading of sorts.
Our current goal right now is fixing up our house and paying it off, it will be paid off around November of 2021, and until then we will be working on fixing everything we can to improve its value. We want to take the profit of selling the house towards our farm.
As we stated we started with rabbits here in town, and they were awesome. It was so fun raising them up and breeding them. Having the babies around was just to cute for words. They mostly for meat, but we would sell the babies when we could.
Our first garden, Spring/Summer of 2020 was not the greatest. We planted a lot, but it quickly became a bug smorgasbord, and almost all of out tomatoes we lost due to blossom end rot. The only plant that truly thrived was our swiss chard, which we really enjoyed
Some goals we have for the future homestead, are as follows, Chickens, Rabbits, Goats, then maybe pigs and sheep!
And hopefully a garden that actually produces stuff for us to eat!
Thank you for stopping by our page, and giving this a read! I really do appreciate it!!
